Flood Re was launched in 2016 as a joint initiative between the Government and insurers to make flood insurance more available and affordable, and we are proud that over 350,000 households have benefitted since then.

From April 2022, customers of insurers who offer Build Back Better (BBB) provisions within their policies will be eligible for further funds over and above work to repair damage caused by a flood – up to £10,000. The funds can be used to install flood resilience measures that are designed to reduce the cost and impact of future flooding, as well as allow families to return to their homes faster after a flood. This will reduce the emotional, financial and environmental impact of future flooding for the individual, the insurer and the country.

Together with other interventions such as flood defences, BBB will provide a powerful tool to address the increased risks of flooding posed by climate change, improving resilience, and supporting families.

Join our fringe session to learn why adapting to increased flooding by building back better is changing the way insurers deal with flood insurance claims.

By attending this presentation attendees should be able to:

  • Understand who Flood Re are and what we do
  • Understand what Build Back Better is and how it is changing the way some insurers will be dealing with flood insurance claims
  • Learn how the insurance industry is leaning into the challenge of climate change and the increased risk of flooding
