“We took 6 of our young brokers to Young Broker Day at The BIBA Conference in 2019. It gave them the opportunity to network with peers from other brokers and contacts within the industry and to experience the learning and business opportunities that The BIBA Conference has to offer. They really enjoyed the day and the chance to do something difference away from the office.”

The YBD initiative provides career development and enhancement opportunities, guidance and support to those BIBA member brokers who are relatively new to the industry.

Who can attend?

YBD is FREE to attend for all BIBA member broking staff and has been designed to appeal to those who are in the early stages of their careers. Importantly, attending YBD may help towards delegates’ Continuous Professional Development requirements.

What happens at YBD?

During the day young brokers will:

  • Hear from inspirational speakers on several discussions relevant to young brokers in a relaxed and informal setting
  • Develop and activate business relationships to enhance knowledge and build peer-to-peer networks. Don’t forget to focus on making ‘meaningful’ contacts; connecting on LinkedIn and exchanging business cards are key in the world of networking
  • Have the opportunity to visit the exhibition and learn about the latest products and services from leading insurance companies

National Young Broker Committee

BIBA’s National Young Broker Committee comprises of the current Young Broker Ambassadors. The Committee now takes a more formal role of advising BIBA’s main board on what current issues younger professionals are facing in the industry.

The Young Broker Ambassadors will be on hand to meet and offer advice throughout the day. This is the perfect platform to learn more about their roles and seek guidance, so make sure you plan ahead and make an appointment to speak with them.

Young Broker of the Year

The Young Broker of the Year Award recognises young brokers for their excellent performance and contribution to broking and aims to encourage commitment to the future professionalism of the insurance industry.

Each year, the winner is announced during the conference. The 2021 award went to Alex Margolin of Sioma Insurance Consultants. Read more here.
